DEANNA DOHERTY, LCSW
FOUNDER AND LEAD PSYCHOTHERAPIST | NY & CT
Hi! I'm Deanna- a grief and trauma therapist, clinical supervisor, and the founder of Shifting Tides Psychotherapy. I specialize in working with adults navigating deep loss, anxiety, addiction and life transitions- especially those who appear strong on the outside but feel like they’re barely holding it together on the inside.

My approach is rooted in authenticity and compassion. I believe healing happens when we feel safe enough to stop performing and start feeling. Therapy with me isn’t sterile or surface-level- it’s relational, evidence-based, and led by someone who gets it.
I’m a "no-BS" therapist. I’ll hold space for your pain with deep empathy, but I’ll also tell you what you need to hear, not just what you want to hear.
Any therapist can learn a modality—but the most transformative therapy happens when you feel truly seen, heard, and connected to the person sitting across from you.

Before founding Shifting Tides, I served as Director of Clinical Trainings at a trauma therapy practice, where I trained clinicians in EMDR and Internal Family Systems (IFS). Before this, I worked in the foster care system and saw firsthand how early childhood trauma can shape who we are as adults.

I’ve spent years helping clients break generational patterns, reclaim their voice, and move forward after impossible losses. I’m a certified EMDR therapist and draw from other evidence based, trauma informed modalities to meet each client where they are, with curiosity and care.

I offer virtual therapy in New York and Connecticut, along with group therapy, clinical consultation, business consulting and training for therapists.

Outside of session, you’ll find me with my dog Rex (Shifting Tides’ unofficial mascot), at the beach, or being creative. I love to paint, shell and play the piano.

ACCEPTING NEW CLIENTS NOW

Hi, I’m Madeline!
At the start of my journey as a social worker, I had the honor of working with a wide range of people and communities- from families experiencing homelessness, domestic violence survivors, and newly arrived refugees. I've witnessed the deep physical and emotional impacts of systemic injustice, natural disasters, lack of basic human necessities, and marginalization.
These experiences sparked a lasting passion in me: to walk alongside others in healing from trauma and cultivating the resilience it calls forth in all of us.

I’ve worked with many individuals who feel hypervigilant, stuck, or as though they’re constantly moving with a sense of urgency—patterns that often stem from unresolved trauma. My goal is to help clients slow down, reconnect with themselves, and move toward a greater sense of safety and ease. Together we can find practical tools for self-care and emotional resilience- helping you feel more at home in your life and body.

My approach is rooted in empathy, curiosity, and compassion. I believe the most important element of therapy is that you feel seen, safe, and connected. My therapeutic style is integrative and holistic. I draw from CBT, DBT, EMDR, IFS, Somatic and psychodynamic approaches, tailoring each session to your needs and considering the full context of your life.
Whether you are navigating anxiety, depression, grief, PTSD, life transitions, chronic illness, or menstrual health challenges like Endometriosis, my hope is that you feel welcomed and supported here. Healing is possible, and I’m honored to walk with you on that path.

If you’re feeling stuck, overwhelmed, or disconnected- you’re not alone, and you don’t have to navigate it all on your own.
I became a social worker to address the root causes of suffering, not just put a bandaid on them.
My career began in foster care and then shifted to medical case management in a level-one trauma center. After witnessing the impact of systemic trauma in healthcare, I was drawn to provide the kind of deeper, ongoing support people need long before they reach crisis.

I approach therapy with a trauma-informed, social justice lens—recognizing that mental health is deeply connected to basic needs like safety, housing, and stability. My style is collaborative, compassionate, and grounded in meeting you exactly where you are.

Whether you're grieving, healing from trauma, navigating a transition, or simply trying to feel more like yourself again, we’ll build tools together to help you move forward with clarity and strength. No therapy jargon, no pathologizing—just real conversations, real relationships, and meaningful change.

Hi, I’m Kelsey – a trauma-informed, sex-positive therapist who helps individuals and couples navigate concerns around sexuality, intimacy, and out-of-control sexual behavior.

If you're feeling stuck in cycles of shame, secrecy, or anxiety around your sexual desires or porn use, you're not alone. I work especially with men who experience guilt or inner conflict about their sexual behavior, offering a nonjudgmental space to explore what’s underneath the patterns and begin healing.

For couples, I support those facing disconnection, mismatched desire, or intimacy challenges—helping partners rebuild trust, improve communication, and deepen their connection.

My work is rooted in training from the Sexual Health Alliance, as well as EMDR, IFS, EFT, and the Gottman Method. Together, we’ll explore how your past may be shaping your present, and create a path forward that aligns with your values and emotional needs.

Reaching out about sexual concerns can feel vulnerable, but you don’t have to do this alone. I'm here to help you move toward a more empowered, fulfilling relationship with yourself and others.
