DEANNA DOHERTY, LCSW
FOUNDER AND LEAD PSYCHOTHERAPIST | NY, CT & FL

Hi, I’m Deanna—a grief and trauma therapist, clinical supervisor, and founder of Shifting Tides Psychotherapy. I work with adults navigating loss, anxiety, addiction, and life transitions—especially those who look strong on the outside but feel like they’re falling apart inside.
My approach is authentic, compassionate, and no-BS.

Therapy with me is relational and evidence-based—I’ll hold space for your pain with deep empathy, while also being honest and direct when you need it most.

Before founding Shifting Tides, I trained clinicians in EMDR and Internal Family Systems as Director of Clinical Trainings at a trauma practice. Earlier in my career, I worked in the foster care system, witnessing how early trauma shapes adulthood. Today, I’m a certified EMDR therapist and draw from multiple trauma-informed modalities to help clients break patterns, reclaim their voice, and heal after devastating losses.

I offer virtual therapy in New York, Connecticut and Florida as well as group therapy, clinical consultation, business consulting, and training for therapists. Outside of work, you’ll find me with my dog Rex (our unofficial mascot), at the beach, or making art.

Education
Bachelors in Social Work, Sacred Heart University
Masters in Clinical Social Work, Fordham University

Are you used to doing it all—excelling at work, caring for others, keeping everything together—yet still feel anxious, burned out, or disconnected?
I’m Ava, and I work with high achievers, perfectionists, healthcare workers, and caregivers who are ready to address the patterns keeping them stuck. Using EMDR, IFS, and trauma-informed approaches, I help people navigate anxiety, depression, OCD, trauma, and life transitions while understanding how stress and perfectionism show up in their bodies and minds.
My approach is collaborative, compassionate, and grounded in social justice—focused on helping you reconnect with yourself, strengthen relationships, and center your needs. Therapy with me is real talk and practical strategies, not “therapy speak”—just steady progress toward a life rooted in clarity, strength, and purpose.
